Dover made the short trip to folkestone for a friendly match after folkestones opposition cried off on fridya morning.
The weather was bleak to say the least with torrential rain and a biting wind but both sides looked to run the ball at every oppurtunity.
Dover struck first after ten soggy minutes when centre Nathan Annakie smashed over from 10 meters after good lineout play in the opposition 22 by Dovers' forwards. Phillips kicked the extras. 7-0 Dover.
Dover started to dominate the tight exchanges and it wasnt long before they added to their lead with Captain Gill going over with Phillips again adding the extras. 14-0 Dover. The final 15 mins of the half saw Dover trying to play fast running rugby which was innapropriate for the conditions and all to often promising attacks came to an end as dover tried to do to much.
A frank half time team talk about playing the conditions paid off straight away as Dover scored from the kick off- Dover kicked off and folkestone allowed the ball to bounce, the folkestone 9 attempted to pass to his 10 but fleet footed Kane Mercer read it like a book and raced away 30 meters to score with an outrageous swan dive that Chris Ashton would have been proud of! 21-0 Dover. Folkestone then had their best spell of the game and looked to crash over from close range after a number of Dover indescretions at the breakdown. Dovers defense remained intact for some ten phases of play before the folkestone 7 attempted an outrageous drop goal in frustration which somehow crept over to give folkestone 3pts. Folkestone were on the scoreboard again 5 mins later after Dovers' Dave Farrel was harshly sent to the bin for a swinging arm in bringing down a folkestone maul, the referee also bizarley awarding folkestone a penalty try. 21-10 Dover.
From here on Dover dominated completely. Gill, Hewer (old) and Farrel were punching holes at will, ably assisted by the Annakie twins and Marx. Wheeler, Rix and particullarly May were dominant in defense and Mercer and Phillips were running things well at half back.
The next score came after Phillips spotted the fullback out of position, His deft chip over was collected expertley by Hewer (young) at full tilt and he easily raced away to score another converted try. 28-10 Dover. The next score quickly followed with Nathan Annakie in for his 2nd as he again powered through two tackles to dot down, 35-10 Dover. Not to be out done by his son Ben, Dad Greg Hewer smashed over from 5meters, phillips again adding the extras for a 42-10 lead.
Dover Finished the rout with winger Coughlan ghosting through the centres to dot down for a score his defensive work merrited, Phillips caping his 100% kicking performance with the extras to give Dover their 3rd consecutive 40+pt victory to win 49-10.
Dover look to be hitting form ahead of a tricky run in with league leaders Judds and Dovers competition for 2nd, Sidcup both coming up in the next three weeks.
