Slow start by both teams with plenty of rucks and mauls on the half way line, with play going either way. Dover were the first to score which was brought about by some fine runs and passing by Jake Hulks, Toby Disbury and Leon Dixon and a scrum on the 5m Vigo line lead to Chris Sellman scoring, not converted.
Vigos kick off was well caught by Sellman, however Vigo caught Dover on the back foot whilst reveling in they victory, by equaling the score with an unconverted try.
Vigo applied pressure on the Dover team but unfortunately suffered some injuries, when play resumed Hulks had a good run to score try number two (unconverted). Again Dover was caught out from a Vigo kick and a hard fought chase to equal the score for the second time.
Winning a Vigo scrum the ball was passed out to Rory Rawson, then to Hulks who kicked it forward, Vigo fumbled the ball and were caught by Hulks, who gained possession again and went on to score his second try which he converted.
In the second half Vigo came out with fire in their bellies, but Dover had the bit between their teeth and the energetic play continued, Seb Fairly caught the ball from the Dover won scrum passing the George Ashby, then onto Hulks to score another try which he converted.
Feelings were high and following an altercation which saw the Dover coach separate, the referee decided no penalties but spoke to both captains. A break from the Vigo team and fumbled ball gave possession back to Dover, Hulks kicked the ball towards the Vigo try line several times, but play was brought back to the 10 m line due to shirt pulling from Vigo and a penalty was awarded but sadly missed.
Vigo continued to apply pressure but with some fine catches by Ben Harris and some great tackling by Jason Penny, Issac Bryant and Toby Disbury Dover scored their 5th try by George Ashby (unconverted).
Dover scrums were second to none as they won the ball time and time again which helped the team to win there first match of the new year.
The game was well matched and a pleasure to watch.
Coach’s man of the match was Jake Hulks for his 3 tries and some good intelligent kicking out of hand.
